Things To Do In Taiwan

When you arrive on business class flights to Taiwan, you are definitely going to want to spend some time getting to know the disarmingly charming city of Taipei. A great place to start your adventure is the legendary Taipei 101 tower, designed to resemble a giant bamboo stalk. Take the pressure-controlled lift up to the top, which only takes 40 seconds to get you to the 89th-floor observation deck, where you can look out on the breathtaking view of the city and hills beyond. The first five floors of the tower contain a high-end mall and a nice food court is located in the basement. Be sure to check out one of the legendary night markets of Taiwan for a truly thrilling experience.

In the southern part of the island lies Taiwan’s second-largest city, Kaohsiung. There are many fantastic sights to see here, such as the fantastical Tianliao Stone Temple, the Cijin Tianhou Temple, the Pier-2 Art District, and the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts. Cruise along the Love River in the evening and stroll along the picturesque Kaohsiung Harbor, perhaps stopping by one of the excellent cafes or beer gardens. The eastern town of Hualien is considered by many to be the most pleasant small town in Taiwan. Don’t miss the Chingszu Temple or the ambitious Fogstand Gallery.

Taiwan has so much to offer beyond its cities’ limits and is home to some of the most beautiful national parks, beaches, and mountains one could ever hope to visit. Alishan is a top destination for travelers on business class flights to Taiwan. There are several train rides that go through the area. Consider taking the Sunrise Train that takes travelers from Alishan to Zhushan, to catch the exquisite sunrise from the top of Zhushan. The Giant Tress Trails are a beautiful half-hour looping route that allows you to see the massive cypresses, Cihyun Temple, and Tree Spirit Pagoda. Shoujhen Temple is located in Alishan, and is a must-visit for its ornate golden altars and 10,000 miniature LED Buddhas.

It’s always a great idea to try the local cuisine when one travels to a new part of the world, and Taiwanese food is a real joy. It’s highly recommended that you try a traditional Taiwanese breakfast of Yonghe Doujiang, a mouthwatering pancake filled with cheese, green onions, and egg. Oyster omelets, braised pork rice, and oyster mee sua are all delicious options. Head to a Hot Star franchise restaurant and try their famous oversized chicken cutlet. Taiwan sausages are a common and satisfying street food that is ubiquitous in all of the cities on the island. For a refreshing dessert, try the mango ice cream or peanut ice cream rolls.

Getting Around Taiwan

Taiwan has two train systems that connect the island’s cities: the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) and the Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA). There is also an extensive network of intercity buses. Taipei and Kaohsiung both have Mass Rapid Transit systems, with stations and trains clearly marked in English. Most of the stations have information booths near the ticket vending machines. It is not permitted to eat or drink within the stations once you pass the gates. If you are going to stay in Taiwan for an extended period of time, you may wish to purchase a rechargeable transit card, which can be bought and recharged at convenience stores, machines located in the stations, and at ticket offices. The city bus services in Taipei are also a good option and are quite accessible to those who cannot understand any Chinese. Payments on the buses can be made by cash or by card. Taxis are easy to find in all of Taiwan’s cities and are fairly inexpensive. Taiwanese taxi drivers have a reputation for being friendly and honest, but you should make sure to have your destination written down in Chinese to avoid frustration, since most cab drivers cannot speak English. If you are taking a cab outside of urban areas, drivers may charge a flat rate rather than run the meter. In small urban areas, taxis can be hard to find, so it’s often a good idea to keep the driver’s number in case you need to use a cab again to leave the area. Renting a car is not recommended if you are staying in Taipei, however you may wish to rent a car if you are heading out of the city. Otherwise, city driving tends to be hectic and parking is scarce.

You are sure to have an unforgettable experience when you travel on business class flights to Taiwan. Whether you are traveling for work or for pleasure, ensure that you have an efficient and enjoyable visit when you purchase premium tickets to this fabulous destination.
