Things To Do In Prague

Head to Old Town, in the heart of Prague, where you can see countless historic buildings and monuments. One of the most popular and noteworthy destinations is the Old Town Hall, with its famous orloj, the astronomical clock dating back to 1410. Nearby, the Estate Theater was where Mozart’s Don Giovanni was debuted. Old Town is also home to many important churches such as St. James Church and Church of Our Lady before Tyn. Prague Castle, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, is the biggest ancient castle in the world and offers breathtaking views of the city. St. Vitus Cathedral also includes a lookout tower, and you can watch the changeover of the Presidential Guard on the hour.

The Charles Bridge crosses the Vltava River, also known as the Moldau, which has inspired many artists over the centuries, including Smetana and Dvořák. This 14th-century bridge connects Old Town with Lesser Town and is known as one of the city’s most beautiful structures. It bustles with activity every day and is a great place to watch musicians busk, or perhaps you will find something one-of-a-kind from one of the many artists selling their wares in the vicinity. Other sites to see in the comely streets of Lesser Town include St. Nicholas Church and the Lennon Wall. You can also find the famous statue of Christ, known as the Holy Infant of Prague, at the Church of Our Lady Victorious.

Other sites not to be missed are the famous Prague Dancing House close to the Karlovo náměstí metro station and the Petřínská rozhledna, a smaller version of the Eiffel Tower that looks down on Prague from Petrin Hill. The Prague Giant Metronome also offers a great vantage point over the city. The Prague Zoo is considered one of the greatest in the world and you can get to it easily by taking the Metro C to Nadrazi Holesovice, then transferring to the bus. Near the zoo is the Troja Chateau with its spectacular Botanical Gardens.

Prague has more than 10 major museums, not to mention all of its theaters, galleries, and cinemas. The Czech National Gallery holds the largest collection of art in the Czech Republic and consists of not one but several historical buildings within the city. The National Museum of Prague is in fact an association of various museums, including museums dedicated to Czech music, ethnography and anthropology. The Prague City Gallery, Czech Museum of Fine Arts, DOX Center for Contemporary Art, the Kafka Museum and the Mucha Museum are all just a handful of examples of the excellent galleries to be found within the city. It’s also worth noting that if you wish to visit a lot of these sites, consider purchasing a sightseeing pass, of which there are many options available depending on your needs.

There is a lot of incredible food and drink to savor in Prague. For fine dining, try Alcron, La Degustation Boheme Bourgeoise or Feld. Try the thin crêpe-like palačinky, vepřo-knedlo-zelo (roast pork, bread dumplings and cabbage), or a kind of open-faced sandwich called chlebíčky. Of course, no trip to Prague is complete without a thorough sampling of their famous Czech beers! If you happen to be visiting in May, there is an annual beer festival where you can taste more than 70 brands of Czech beer. But at any time of the year, there are always hundreds of restaurants, bars and pubs ready to satisfy your thirst. For a place to start, try Restaurace U Veverky, Lokal, or U Kroka. There is also a vast selection of beer-themed tours of Prague, so the options are endless.

Old Town is full of gift and souvenir shops where you can find Bohemian crystal, soccer shirts and other memorabilia, but for those seeking more unique items, going off the beaten path is always best. There are many street vendors in the Charles Bridge area and you can pick up a nice print of a painting or good quality photo of the city to remember it by – not that Prague is a city you would ever forget! For luxurious shopping, Pařížská Street is the city’s most prestigious boulevard and home to a vast range of exclusive designer boutiques. Na Prikope is another street well known for shopping.

Getting Around Prague

The best way to immerse yourself in this gorgeous city and take in the culture is most certainly to walk as much as you can, and Prague has an excellent reputation for being a very walkable city. It is worth noting, however, that because most of the streets are cobbled, it can be difficult for the elderly or disabled. It is illegal in the Czech Republic to cross on a red light and getting caught disobeying this law will incur you a fine. For longer distances, the metro is a great option with its 3 subway lines and many bus and tram routes. Tickets can be bought at many places including ticket machines, convenience stores, public transit offices, and from bus (not tram) drivers. Tickets must be validated by slipping them into the yellow box in the tram or bus upon boarding, or just inside the metro stations. Avoid taking taxis if you can, as there is a 90% chance that you will get overcharged.

Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, business class flights to Prague are the smartest and most relaxing way to travel. From the moment you book your premium ticket, you will guarantee yourself a traveling experience that you will never forget. Business class flights to Prague are the savvy traveler’s means of ensuring an amazing journey from start to finish, so you can fully enjoy all that this incredible city has to offer.
